Burberry made fashion history this past week. On Thursday, October 22 Burberry used Snapchat, one of the fastest growing social media platforms, to defy the fashion odds and bring the inner workings behind the scenes to the front stage. Burberry and photographer Mario Testino teamed together and filmed the live photo shoot of the Spring/Summer 2016 collection. The snaps aired for just 24 hours beginning on Thursday, October 22 at 5 pm. The Snapchat journey covered still photos of models posing and the backstage scenery of the shoot.
The campaign gives Snapchatters the feeling of being there, with the Burberry crowd, amidst all the luxury leather and fashion glory.
This isn’t the first time Burberry tapped into the Snapchat stream for marketing promotion. Just last month, I watched clips of the Spring/Summer 2016 fashion show live from London. This year is proving to show that fashion being accessible to everyone just might be one of the marketing keys to success. As a full-time marketing professional myself, I think it’s a smart move. And I’ve thoroughly enjoyed watching the London moments I cherish as I sit in Dallas, Texas getting excited about every bit of Burberry being poured into this next collection.
